Play Report - Dogs on the Isle for 2/7
7th of Early Spring
The Dogs are back in Dorbagh recovering from a loss to the Bog Mummy. During their downtime Sgathach and Foot Two-Man construct a giant stake upon which to impale the Bog Mummy. It's so large that it can only be effectively wielded by four Dogs.
No additional men of Dorbagh will join us, though one gives Foot Two-Man his pole-arm as aid. Foot Two-Man boasts that he will lead the team to stake the creature.
On the way to the Spring the Dogs encounter a Christian Priest with his throat cut out, along with 16 other corpses torn apart. It is a gruesome site. Foot Two-Man marks the spot to let the Lord of Dorbagh know when he gets back.
The Dogs go out hunting. The first group wounds a giant elk; Keli, Llwd, and Foot Two-Man finish it off with javelins. The remains of the elk are worth 50 silver and 60 rations.
Once at the Spring Keli volunteers to lure the Bog Mummy out. Her taunts alone are not enough so she bares her breasts and starts hurling javelins at the creature. Unfortunately for her this is very effective and the Bog Mummy drives his spear through her eye. She died how she lived: tits out, taunting death.
The rest of the Dogs charge out of the woods with Ivan, Osric, Dathi, and Foot Two-Man carrying the stake.
Odela throws his special dirt at the Mummy, it is ineffective. There is a general melee. Shields are shattered, nets thrown, and Llwd wrestles with the Mummy for his spear. Osric and Dathi drop from the Stake team to join the battle. Sean and a wondering woodsman, Moldy Ori, take up their posts.
After much battling and several gruesome wounds from the Bog Mummy the Stake team drives the stake through the creature, pinning it to the ground. Ivan delivers the coup de grace with his axe.
After the battle the Dogs find a hoard of 13 Heavy Bronze Torcs studded with Gemstones. Foot Two-Man celebrates fulfilling his boast by donning his Torc and dancing atop the stake which still pins the mummy's corpse to the ground.
The Dogs make their way back to Dorbagh without incident. They carry the stake over their shoulders with the Bog Mummy's corpse dangling from it, singing a song of victory. Keli's body lays atop the Stake in repose, glorious dead triumphant over her foe.
Lord Donnagh comes out of his great hall to meet us in the center of town. The Dogs claim their victory over the undead which had threatened his people. He holds a feast in their honor. The people of Dorbagh are happy to host us for another 8 weeks.
Foot Two-Man spends the feast regaling the other guardsmen with tales of bravery over the Bog Mummy. He returns the lent pole-arm to his battle brother as a sign of their aid.
Lord Donnahj tells us of a tournament at the end of early spring being held in Blulach by Lord Glas. There will be racing, archery, and a martial contest. Lord Donnagh would grant us the honor of representing him in the tournament.
The next day Ruis peasants from Stemullen petition the lord. Recent troubles had come to a head. A few weeks ago a Stranger had come to their town and murdered their druid in broad daylight. Since then there have been wolf attacks at twilight and even worse in the middle of the night. Several days ago their village was razed in the middle of the night by men who moved in unnatural ways. Peasants were killed (including children), bee-hives burnt to the ground, and corpses butchered with the killers carrying their gruesome cuts into the forest.
After play actions:
During his down-time Foot Two-Man will turn his elk rations into dry rations by drying and salting them. He has volunteered to do this for any of the other dogs. Additionally, he'll ask around to see if anyone knows a way to heal the wounds caused by the Bog Mummy.
Lord Donnagh gave him leave to follow the dogs until mid-spring and from his own stores supplied traveling gear, an extra shield, and a long bow + arrows.
What to do next:
Foot Two-Man considers himself in debt to the Dogs for giving him an opportunity to die in glorious combat and helping him fulfill his boast. He'll follow the Dogs lead as long as he gets a chance to increase his renown or die gloriously.
Whatever the Dogs decide, he's down. However his suggestions would be: Track down whoever attacked Stemullen. As a pagan he would consider any creature who kills a druid to be particularly loathsome. He's happy to avenge the druid or die trying. Also, he has a fondness for Dorbagh, so anything that could raze Stemullen could also threaten Dorbagh. Attend the tournament in Blulach. Such a tournament is a great way to increase his renown both personally and with Lord Donnagh. Also, an ideal place for some semi-friendly wagers and boasts.
