Massacre at the Spring Cave
28 Laterwinter
Slode joined the party as they attempted to clear out a Spring by dumping two casks of quick lime into it, killing the undead infesting the waters. Before leaving town the party rallied 6 armored footman to the cause.
The trip to the Spring is quiet as the party doesn't have any encounters. The hunting parties are also unsuccessful. Is this the influence of the undead infested head waters?
At the spring the waters are completely black and filled with grime. The party split into two groups, one to push the wagon filled with quick lime up the hill and the other to hold back any skeletons.
The plan seemed to be going well. The Battle Group is holding their own while the Quick Lime Group dumped the whole wagon into the waters, the chemical reaction does damage to anything still in the water.
Then the plan starts to fall apart.
Crow lost his first PC of the session when Lars is killed by a Skeleton. Llwd is knocked out but is stabilized before dying. However, things started to look up as the skeletons still in the water fall to the quicklime.
The Quicklime party ran down the hill to join in the melee. Animal corpses burst in the water and wretched stench filled the PCs lungs forcing anyone near the water to make PHYSIQUE saves.
A mummified figure floated out of the water, as if it stood on the grime. It wore a crown (centuries of muck and grime polluting it). This Mummy King additionally carried a spear made for killing men.
Morale held for the footman and we were able to regroup in the middle of the shore. Fjute Mannson (Crow) then died to the Mummy King.
Slode made the boast that he would burn the mummy king to ashes. Instead he got False Grail'ed. Poor Slode didn't make it a full session. At least Osric is kind enough to set Slode's body afire, ensuring he doesn't rise as one of the undead. I took over one of the two remaining Footmen.
Crow then lost Fjute Mannson to the Mummy King. We decided that this battle is unwinnable and made a hasty retreat.
Odela's HP is permanently reduced by the attack he received from the Gunk Mummy King.
Back in town Ali got into a dawn duel with the final Footman (Corm the Friend) over his apparent cowardice. Ali is killed with a sword driven through him.
