Knife Crimes - A Small Cairn Hack
A quick hack I made as my friends wanted to run a game based on a bunch of action movies we love.
I made some small text changes to the Destiny table and throughout but the main addition was Power Points and a new background table. I also bumped up HP a little as the characters were a little more robust.
Newly Added: Power Points (linked to Willpower)
During Character Creation - Set your Power Points equal to your Willpower. Power Point are regained at a rate of 1 per 10 minutes of rest. You can always burn a Power Point to re-roll a die. Burned Power Points are regained at a rate of 1 per week.
| Background | Starting Items | Perk |
|---|---|---|
| W.B.B | A stash of drugs, A Shiv (d4+1), Improvised Armor (+2 Armor) | I’m Bobby Bule! When you would take attribute damage, spend a Power Point for the amount of damage below zero that attack would take you + the number of scars you have. Gain hp up to half your maximum and 1 scar. Roll d12 for this scar but do not take attribute damage. You can burn a Power Point to take the damage for an ally you can reach. |
| Mad Dog | Knife (d6), Molotov Cocktails (3), Nondescript Clothing | Mad Dog. On your turn declare that you are Mad Dog. You take no other action that turn. On your next turn spend Power Points up to each point of damage you have taken since declaring you are Mad Dog. Deal double that damage to enemies you can see (divided however you want). Do not roll for scars between declaring you are Mad Dog and the end of your next turn. You also cannot die in that time. |
| Sorcerer | Six Demon Bag (see perk), Smoke Bombs (6), Medicine Flask | Six Demon Bag. You have a Six Demon Bag. Spend Power Points to create effects. State the effect you want to create and the DM will let you know the number of points required. You start with double the normal Power Points but you no longer regain Power Points as normal. Instead you can regain any number of Power Points whenever you visit a suitable location (examples, alchemical lab, place of power, a Dead God’s final resting place). |
| Shadow | Sword (d8), Lock-pick Set, Grappling Hook | A Stray Shadow. Spend a Power Point per minute to be completely invisible while moving or hiding. This is broken when you attack and/or alert enemies to your presence. |
| Knife Criminal | Daggers (d6), Fragile Armor (negate any attack, destroys armor), A needle and surgical suture | Knife Crime. If it is at all feasible, you have a knife on your person. You can never have lower than a 5% chance to have a knife available. When attacking with a knife you can spend 2 Power Points to re-roll a damage die. You can do this once per attack. |
| Cyclone | A pack of cigarettes (seemingly endless), Pair of Sunglasses, Cane (d8) | Cyclone. On a successful hit you can push an enemy 5 feet per Power Point spent. Alternatively, on your turn you can spend a Power Point to push yourself 5 feet any number of times, this does not count as an action or against your normal movement. You can not be made to drop your cigarette unless you want to. |
| Spirit Power Wielder | Crowbar (d6), 2 Loyal Goons, Flashy Clothes | Spirit Power. Spend Power Points to increase your armor rating for 10 minutes. You can do this at any time during your turn. +2 Armor = 5 Power Points, +3 Armor = 7 Power Points, +4 Armor = 10 Power Points |
| Senior Inspector | A Gun (d10, six shots per battle), A badge and handcuffs, Armored Vest (+1 Armor | Did Your Homework. If you study an NPC for 1 minute you know their background, including any prior arrests, family members, fears, weaknesses, or former aliases. For 3 Power Points you can know something about the hidden, esoteric, or magical. You cannot be restrained by ropes, handcuffs, tape, etc. Additionally, you can not be ambushed in combat |
